A New Chapter for RealCentralVA, 21 Years In

Meticulous recently launched a complete redesign of RealCentralVA, Jim Duncan's Charlottesville real estate blog, which has been publishing continuously since 2005. Twenty-one years of local market analysis had created an invaluable archive, but also accumulated outdated themes, broken links, obsolete plugins, and inconsistent formatting. We led the project from strategy and UX through visual design and WordPress development, creating a cleaner, more accessible reading experience while preserving the history and independent perspective that make the site valuable. The redesign also gives Jim a simpler way to manage neighborhood guides, evergreen resources, and new articles without wrestling with code or complicated layouts.

Much of the work happened behind the scenes. We developed custom tools to analyze more than 26,000 outbound links, recovering 3,782 broken references through the Internet Archive, and repaired formatting and encoding issues throughout the archive. We also rebuilt 20 neighborhood guides as structured, editable content and improved performance, search accessibility, and AI discoverability. The result is more than a new look. It's a thoughtful modernization of a site that has been part of Charlottesville's online landscape for over two decades, built to make the next chapter of publishing easier without losing what made the first 21 years worth preserving.
