Virginia Headwaters Council & Camp Shenandoah

The Virginia Headwaters Council serves Scouts in Central Virginia and Pendelton, WV, and runs Camp Shenandoah, a near 500-acre reservation that has hosted summer camp since 1950. It runs on volunteer effort. Its websites ran on Tentaroo, a platform rigid enough that updating a page took a technical operator. An organization powered by volunteers had a CMS that fought them. That is the wrong tradeoff.

John serves as the council's VP of Technology and Communications and led this work through Meticulous as a volunteer engagement, carrying forward the brand Dave Seal built for the council.

We moved registration to Black Pug and rebuilt both sites on WordPress with ACF-Pro, designed around a kit of content blocks any volunteer can use without writing code.

Both launched in January 2025 and we've continued to add features and functions to the sites. Camp registration has improved year over year for two consecutive years since.
